Pöttmesser crib

A large pageant

This gigantic presentation of the nativity scene takes up an area of 58 m². No less than 778 wood-carved figures, carefully dressed in costumes of the period, are placed in the pituresque scenery of the Holy Land in front of a painted background. This nativity crib ist certainly one of the biggest of its kind. It was created by the wood-carver Ferdinand Pöttmesser, from South Tyrol. 

The oriental scenery shows four different scenes:

• The shepards in the field, listening to the Annunciation

• The nativity scene in a cave

• Oriental women at a well and a Bedouin market

• The Three Magi with their entourage emerging from an oriental town.
